Mascara dates back to ancient Egypt. Most formulas contain the same basic elements: pigmentation, oils, and waxes. And that is what I was trying to recreate, to build up a free from chemicals mascara. This homemade mascara does a great job conditioning the lashes and give them natural look. I wouldn’t necessary go to a red carpet and wearing it but I think it does the job nicely. 😀
What you’ll need:
- 3 capsules activated charcoal (or use cacao powder for brown colour)
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp soy wax
- 3 tsp aloe vera gel
Directions :
Melt the oils and wax together in a double boiler ( You can make one yourself using a heatproof bowl and a pot. The bowl does not touch the water, but creates a seal with the bottom pan to trap the steam produced by the simmering water).
Add the aloe gel, then activated charcoal ( open the capsules and pour into the mixture). Mix thoroughly.
Pour into a small plastic bag, pushing the mixture down to one corner. Then cut a very small hole in the opposite corner of the bag.
Transfer into desire container. I used my old, empty mascara container – just make sure you’ll clean it first.
