The “greenest food” are healthy food. The tips below are not only good for your health but also for the environment:
- try grow your own vegetable, fruits, herbs
- buy local
- buy certified, organic and fair trade products
- buy loose-avoid packaging
- read labels-avoid ingredients that are genetically modified
- buy and eat seasonally
- eat raw food as much as possible
- keep processing to a minimum-look for food as close to its natural state as possible, without the addiction of colourings, preservatives
- avoid “ready meals”
- support your local and national organic and green organizations
- join a vegetable box scheme
- wherever possible, walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the shops or farmers’ market
- get a shopping list-don’t buy something you don’t need
- think food quality not food quantity.
